BL in Real Life: Fan Meets, Fandom & Finding Your People
For many fans, getting into BL starts with a single series—but it rarely stops there.
One show becomes two. Two becomes five. And before you know it, you’re searching actor names, following new releases, and saving edits to your camera roll at 2am 😌
Because once you start, you’ll want more.
And that’s where BL fan culture comes to life—through fan meets, events, and vibing with a community.
✨ From Screen to Real Life
In recent years, BL has grown far beyond streaming platforms and into real-world spaces.
Starting in Asia—and more recently around the world—fan meetings, live events, and conventions are giving fans the chance to connect not only with each other, but with the actors and creators behind their favourite TV series, giving fans something they can experience in real life.
🎤 Fan Meets: Where It All Comes Together
Fan meetings have become one of the biggest parts of BL culture.
These events often feature popular on-screen pairings appearing together for:
- Live games and challenges
- Interviews and behind-the-scenes moments
- Performances and fan interactions
- Q&A sessions
And honestly? There’s nothing quite like seeing the chemistry you’ve watched on screen play out live, in front of you.
It adds a whole new layer to the connection—not just to the characters, but to the actors behind them.
✈️ Different Countries, Different Experiences
Having attended a few fan meets myself, I can honestly say—it’s a completely different experience from simply watching a series at home to meeting them in real life.
One of the most memorable things has been seeing how these events vary depending on where you are.
At a UK fan meet, it felt genuinely special to have a BL event locally. But what stood out most was the energy of the crowd. The passion from fans here proves just how strong (and growing) the BL community is outside Asia.
In contrast, an event I attended in Italy had a much larger-scale format, featuring multiple actor pairings across the event. Each pairing had its own ticketed experience, allowing fans to choose exactly who they wanted to see.
It really highlighted how established and diverse the BL event scene has become globally—and how each location brings its own unique experience.

Thailand: Leading the Global Stage
It’s not exactly a surprise that Thailand leads the way here, too.
It has a well-established BL industry, Thai production companies regularly organise fan meetings both locally and internationally. Actor pairings/shipped couples often travel across Europe (if we’re lucky in the UK) and beyond—bringing their shows directly to global audiences.
And these events aren’t just promotional.
They’re celebrations of the fandom—a way of recognising the community that helped these series become the global phenomenon they are today. In a way, giving back to the fans that helped them to get where they are today.

🌏 A Growing Global Movement
More recently though it’s not just Thailand anymore.
Korean and Japanese BL actors are increasingly joining fan-focused events, while conventions—like comic cons and Asian pop culture festivals—are starting to include:
- BL panels
- Screenings
- Guest appearances
All of this is helping make BL more visible, more accessible, and more global than ever before.
💬 The Feeling You Can’t Replicate
What really sets BL events apart is the atmosphere.
There’s a shared understanding—an unspoken connection between fans. Everyone in the room has been moved by similar stories, characters, and emotions.
Whether it’s:
- Cheering during a game segment
- Laughing at behind-the-scenes stories
- Or just standing in a crowd that gets it
There’s a genuine sense of belonging and shared enjoyment.

📱 Online & Offline: One Big Community
And even if you can’t attend in person, you’re still part of it.
Social media has made BL fandom more connected than ever, with fans sharing:
- Clips and highlights
- Photos from events
- Live updates and reactions
So whether you’re front row at a fan meet or watching fancams or lives from your bed, you’re still experiencing it together.
BL exists both online and offline at the same time—and that’s what makes it so awesome.
🌈 Thinking of Going to Your First Event?
If you’re new to BL, fan events might feel like something for “later.”
But honestly? They’re worth keeping on your radar.
Even just one fan meet or convention panel can completely change how you experience the genre—turning it from something you watch into something you share.
And just like the shows themselves, there’s no right way to take part.
Whether you’re:
- Queuing for a fan meet
- Watching clips online
- Supporting your fave couple by splashing out on mascot merch
- Or just joining the conversation on social media
You’re part of the same growing community.
🌈 It’s More Than Just a Genre
Because at the end of the day, BL isn’t just about the stories on screen.
It’s about the connections those stories create—between characters, between fans, and sometimes… between people on opposite sides of the world.
And once you find your place in that?
It starts to feel like home 💖
